The northern soul movement started in the mid 60’s named for it’s birthplace in the north of England. Slim suited mods were attracted to the American soul scene and eventually clubs popped up dedicated to underground and rare soul tracks as opposed to the chart topping motown hits. The birth of the all night club, like Manchester’s ‘Twisted Wheel‘, was introduced, but quickly ended as cops raided the drug filled haunts. While the mod scene evaporated during the late 60’s, the northern soul scene remained throughout the 70’s attracting motown aficionados.
