Who could forget the drunken guitarist from 80’s metal band W.A.S.P. and his mom in Decline of the Western Civilization Part 2?
It’s the funniest moment of the trilogy. Clad in head-to-toe leather, Chris lays on a blow-up raft in his pool as he slurs that he is “a piece of crap” while his mom smiles on like a Stepford Wife, trying to look good for the camera. At one point she jokes that her son only drinks while he’s awake (as they share a cocktail). When asked by Spheeris where he will be in 10 years, Chris says, “Dead.” The intoxicated W.A.S.P. guitarist pours vodka from a Smirnoff bottle into his mouth and all over his face multiple times during his interview. Director Penelope Spheeris admits she was worried about Chris’ alcoholism. She checked up on Chris every few months to see how he was doing.
Well, Chris Holmes didn’t die, he’s actually been sober for more than 15 years. He’s back with a funny music video straight from his home in Cannes, France. His wife is French and they moved out of L.A. because Chris believes that his time had expired there. California youth don’t listen to metal or rock & roll as much anymore and Cannes continues to have a bigger rock scene.
“Let It Roar” is not the worst song I’ve ever heard. It has a Motorhead-esque charm to it. The track is off his latest record, Shitting Bricks…. Classy title.
The video for “Let It Roar” is hilarious and went viral at the beginning of this year. Holmes does metal as fuck things such as: eats breadsticks, drinks espresso, sits on a yacht, smokes an e-cigarette, feeds his dog, eats soft serve, rocks out in front of a cotton candy shack and walks around a beach with his guitar, hahaha.
Poor Chris really lost all of his pretty boy looks with age (and I’m sure the hard drinking didn’t help). The pot-bellied hesher wasn’t trying to be funny which makes this footage even more ridiculous. He has said in interviews that people are always gonna make fun of him anyway, but he was really just into being filmed doing what he loves to do every day in his beautiful adopted city.
