Nick Cave’s son, Arthur, died from a tragic cliff fall in Brighton on Tuesday. Arthur was the twin of Earl Cave, they were born in 2000, ending his short life at the age of fifteen.
Arthur was found at the bottom of Ovingdean Gap in the small village of Ovingdean in Brighton out of East Sussex county in England.

After members of the public found him, they started CPR and called emergency services. Arthur was airlifted to Royal Sussex County Hospital around 6pm, he died shortly after arrival from his injuries.
Nick and Susie Cave issued a statement:
“Our son Arthur died on Tuesday evening. He was our beautiful, happy loving boy.
“We ask that we be given the privacy our family needs to grieve at this difficult time.”

In the pseudo documentary film of Nick Cave’s life, ‘20,000 Days On Earth,’ we witness a scene where Nick is eating pizza on a couch with the twins beside him. As we get to peer into Cave’s everyday family life, we notice the joy he feels when he spends time with them. Arthur’s blond locks and beautiful blue eyes glisten as he tears off a piece of his father’s pizza. The camera zooms in on Arthur’s face intently as they simultaneously repeat Al Pacino’s famous line, “Say hello to my little friend.” There is a whole new sadness that comes along with watching that film now.
In April, Arthur sat in the row directly behind me at Nick Cave’s NYC reading of his latest book, ‘The Sick Bag Song.’ Nick made a point to announce that his twins were in the audience and cracked a joke about embarrassing them, as fourteen year old boys don’t ever want to be seen with their parents. I glanced back and Arthur was laughing wholeheartedly at his father’s joke. He looked less embarrassed and more proud of his talented and funny pop.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Nick, Susie, Earl, Jethro and the rest of their family.
