If you have ever seen the movie ‘Party Monster,’ than you know a bit about some of the famous NYC club kids. Especially James St. James and the once convicted killer, Michael Alig. These legendary artists made the city more colorful by dressing up in crazy outfits and painting their faces blue, or slapping on a prosthetic nose and clown wig. Whatever they dreamt up, they wore. No rules applied when dancing at The Limelight.
Here they are on The Joan Rivers Show and Phil Donahue defending their self expression. The last video is Michael Alig’s McDonald’s party which was emulated in the movie as well. Some of you experienced this time in all it’s glory. Unfortunately, today it’s rare to see a made up club kid or drag queen on these New York City streets. They are still buzzing around somewhere, getting paid by club owners to entertain the suits. I just wish there were more.
