Watch poet Patti Smith in the 1972 documentary film, West Side Stories with actor Jonathan Miller. The film focuses on their individual New York City experiences and personal histories.
Alice Cooper is one of the sweetest guys on earth. That's why it's hard to believe him when he talks about how 'dangerous' Alice is. Obviously, he's talking about his alter ego, but the sweet, and intelligent Vincent Furnier would never hurt a fly. That's probably why he acts out his dark fantasies on stage.
Johnny Thunders getting rough with Spaceley right before shredding on guitar at The Mudd Club in NYC. The club was located at 77 White Street in TriBeCa. This counterculture mecca was born in October of 1978 and housed many punk misfits of the underground scene until it's demise in 1983.
From their meager start as The N' Betweens to Ambrose Slade, and finally becoming just Slade, the four boys from Walsall, England made it to #1. Best known for songs like 1972's, "Mama Were All Crazee Now," which was later covered by The Runaways, and "Cum On Feel The Noize," which was turned into a hit by Quiet Riot. This band was majorly influential and yet have a Spinal Tap quality to them. With their ridiculous outfits, hair, and absent minded comments, you expect Christopher Guest to walk into frame.
School mates from Croydon, England came together to violate their parent's ear drums with punk rock noise in 1974. The aggressive center being singer Paul Halford (whose alter ego was Johnny Moped), with Captain Sensible of the Damned on guitar. Many other names were used, including Assault and Buggery, before settling on Johnny Moped by 1975.
Bryan Ferry was working as a part-time furniture restorer and ceramics teacher when he met art school graduate Brian Eno in 1970. At the time, the fledgling musicians had no idea the success their partnership would create. Eno and Ferry, along with Roxy Music founding member Andy Mackay, would combine their art school backgrounds and interest in avant-garde music to create an irresistible sound and enduring style.
Patti Smith recalls her days living at the legendary Chelsea Hotel. Highlights include living under the same roof as Janis Joplin and running into William S. Burroughs at the bar across the street. Patti may not have had much money in her younger years, but she lived a very culturally rich lifestyle.
Jimmy was my first teacher, he had drummed for Blondie, gotten the musical approval of Lou Reed, and even had to stop Stiv Bators from hitting on his girlfriend.
The Life Is Dance compilation is a continuance of The Sound Of Wonder compilation. The soundtracks of these Lollywood movies were made by Pakistani musicians who really loved American music. So with the groovy 60's fuzz guitar sounds that echo Hollywood films combined with the drum beats of their native land, these unique tracks were born.
I dare you not to smile while watching these funky cats boogie down the party line. The 70's kids are my favorite as far as moves go, but the hair and outfits in the 80's clips are also priceless.
